Let’s start with the 2010 Crotona midnight Run. As you all are aware, this event did not happen and you all probably know why. Saturday morning, after the big snow storm, I went over the river to check out the route. It didn’t take too many miles before I came upon the first closed road, Lake Road. I then figured that maybe they would have it open for the run so I skirted around it. Came around a corner and into 2 miles of packed ice. The biggest threat.
was low hanging branches, which would be invisible at night. It wasn’t long before I knew that we would not be running the 92nd Crotona midnight Run. I advised Steve Peck of my decision, who was in full agreement. By the time I got home, Steve had alerted the world about the Crotona. Not much more to do but make a couple of phone calls to Pa. and New England. The word must have gotten to all concerned because when I went to Nathan’s / Kohl’s parking lot, I was very happy to see not a soul. I waited till about 11:45 and then headed home, a bit disappointed but satisfied that the right decision was made.
Sunday morning, instead of going to bed, I got up and headed to the diner for breakfast. It was a beautiful morning, so after having breakfast, I headed home, changed my clothes started up the BMW and headed for the Polar Bear. Couldn’t waste both Saturday & Sunday.
Next week’s Polar Bear will be to the Long Valley Brewery & Pub, one of our favorite places for a beer & a Burger. We will be leaving the diner at 10:00am. The polar bear is winding down for this season with only 3 finishers. Bad weather & operations have taken their toll this year. It looks like Bob Steinberg has 1st place locked up with Bill Widmer taking 2nd. There are 4 more Polar Bears left;Long Valley, the Chatterbox, Brian’s HD and a new place,Picalilli in Shamong, NJ, wherever that is!!!!

Yes, it was one of those iffy days again, but I was not going to let some drizzle and a bad forecast force me home again. We are the Ramapo MC, not a bunch of wimps. Besides, it was a fairly short ride of about 160 mile round trip. So…’Press on regardless’..
In spite of the poor riding conditions, once again the parking lot was full and so were the Men’s room. We stopped at the Cabin for a bite and then it was on the road again. Home?? Not right away. We took this opportunity to make a passport stop in Allaire State Park. Then it was home.
Next week’s ride will be to the Exchange, in Rockaway NJ. It is about 100 mile round trip and we will be leaving the diner at 10:30. We will have time for a coffee before the ride. We will also be throwing in a passport stop at no additional charge, so bring along your camera.

It was one of those iffy days again. I was ready to ride and when I got the the diner it seems like everybody had a sad face and an excuse not to ride. Bad weather down south…
Sleet & rain all day…etc.
So we decided to have some breakfast and head back to our abodes. All the way home, I was saying, to myself, I should have gone to Hillbilly Hall. Well looking out of the window I am pretty content, not happy nor disappointed, that I stayed home. Poor Cathie, she is still on ski patrol, in the rain. Oh well!!!
Next week is another repeated site. We are going to ‘The Cabin’ as Fort Dix, due to security reasons made it too difficult for us to gain access. We will leave at 10:00am.
This wraps it up for another
year, 2009. Back-up for these figures will be available at the first meeting in
January. Looking foward to another great year for Ramapo MC.
HAPPY, SAFE & HEALTHY NEW YEAR.

Another bleak Sunday with no chance of improvement.
As you can see from the above list, only two(2) members of Ramapo decided to head down to ‘The Cabin’. This was unfortunate as the weather has made a turn for the worse and Black Ice is on the road. Maybe, I should have
cancelled the ride, but they were determined to ride. I had some worry about Jerry as he did not have any electrics, neither gloves nor vest.
As for me, I am now recuperating from my hernia operation and maybe I will try the ride to The Frog Rock Inn. It is pretty long so I will decide later next week.
Again, due to the length of the ride, we will be leaving the diner at 9:00am instead of 10:00 am. Hope to see you there.

As you can see, I am progressing in my healing process. I made it to the diner for attendance & mileage as a dutiful road captain should.
It was a beautiful day for a ride and I was a bit envious of those that could. Hopefully, I will be back in the saddle next week; ‘Lord willing and the creek don’t rise’. Last year, I made all the
Ramapo MC Polar Bears. This year I have misses 50% of them already and it isn’t even December yet.
This Thursday is the election of club officers. Good luck to all that are running for office and thanks to those elected as Ramapo needs
good people to run this club.
Next Sunday’s ride will be to Montgomery Cycle, in Pa. Ride leaves the diner at 9:00am. Hope to see you all there!!

Well, I’m happy to say that I back from the cruise and back on the road again.
Not really happy that I’m back from the cruise but happy I am back on the road.
That is a very prophetic statement to make. After a good ride and lunch at the
Cornucopia, we headed back home. This time I was not very glad to be on the
road. At least pieces of me were on the road. I was less than .5 miles from home
and making a left turn at an intersection when I hit a pile of wet leaves and
high-sided my
bike. I should say Cathie’s bike. End result was four(4) broken ribs and a
cracked acronium. Spent 2 days at Hackensack Hospital.
I guess I will miss a few more Polar Bears this season. I’ll be lucky to finish.
Next week’s ride will be to Hillbilly Hall in Hopewell, N.J. The ride will leave
the diner at 9:00am. Have fun. Sorry I can’t join you. I will be trying to join

On Saturday, BMW Manhattan cancelled their Pa. Foliage Run.
Not to be outdone, Ramapo cancelled their Sunday ride and for good reason. As I
type this report, rain in coming down, not heavy but steady. It was a ‘breakfast
at the diner day’.
Last weekend, we set a new record for attendance at the Ramapo Fall Foliage run
with 135 motorcycles. If it was held today, we probably would have set another
record for the least number of riders.
Hopefully, next Sunday will be a sunny day as it is the start of the
Polar Bear Season. Last March, I warned you that before you knew it, it would be
here and, as most always, I was correct.
We will be leaving he Fireplace, Rte 17-N at 8:00am and wend our way down to
Cape May. Hope to see a good turnout for this ride.

We were welcomed with open arms and off we went on our assigned task of protecting a dwindling number of riders. There were probably twice as many runners as there were bike riders.
The weather probably did not help any as the day was overcast and a slight drizzle
The only action that Cathie & I saw was a downed runner or biker on Hudson Terrace. I directed traffic until the Ambulance cart the victim off to Englewood Hospital.
We rode the rest of the route and then cut out before the end site due to family commitments, dance recitals!!! Tinkerbelle had a good time despite the weather. I will let Bob Steinberg fill in the empty spaces.

On another note, Cathie Roberts, on the return trip, in Chester, NY

As you can see from the above information, we had a busy day. The passport tour covered about 260 miles and 3 very obscure eating establishments,
especially Louie’s Lunch in New Haven, which is reputed to have made the first hamburger in America. It was a shame that it was not open when we got there.

From there, we headed north to Newington, Ct, driving right thru YALE University. We stopped at ‘the tables down at Mory’s’ and sang the Whiffinpoof Song.
Then back on the road for Doogie’s, another very unimpressive eating place. Don’t be fooled by looks. The food was great and the prices unbelievable. Too far for a Thursday night ride.

It was ice cream at Denmo’s and headed back to Rockland.

Along the way we had some on and off shower activity, but for the most part, the weather was good and the ride was another Ramapo success story.

As promised, everybody was back home before 12 Noon. Also, as promised, we covered 2 states and 3 passport site visitations.
Ramapo MC is noted for traveling over roads less traveled. We continued this tradition by traveling over road less traveled by RMC. Garden State Pkwy, Route 3, Route 17, Route 4, G.W.B.
Route 95, Cross Bronx Expressway, Sheridan Expressway, Bruckner Blvd, Hunt’s Point Ave, just to name a few. If this wasn’t a passport specific ride, I would have been embarrassed by the route, but it was what was expected by all, so no complaints.
Due to family Nuptials in the Caribbean, I will be unable to lead next week’s ride. I will also be away for Thursday’s meeting. The following Sunday, 24 May, we will have another passport quest to upstate NY, via Phoenicia. Hoping for some nice weather, both in the islands and upon my return.

Speaking of enjoyable, so was the food at the end of the run. Predictable, but good. We can always depend on Sheppard’s Pie. We all ate our fill, including Tinkerbelle, who was fed by a few of our members. The beer wasn’t bad either.
Cathie & I won a door prize, but the best rep club went to American Spirit with 12 members. We had only 9. Too bad, maybe next year. All in all a good time was had by all. Our club mascot went immediately to sleep upon arriving home followed closely by yours truly.
As one of our past road captain uttered many time during his reign
next week is a “ROLL YOU OWN’ ride as my twin grandsons are receiving their Fist Holy Communion. I am sure you will come up with something. Maybe the Asst. R.C. will have a day off and lead you in my absence.
I hope that you all enjoyed today’s event as much as I.
One of our lads, Aris, didnt as he did take a spill and broke his collar bone, but based on his comments re: pain relievers, he seems to be doing quite well, and expects to get back in the saddle in the near future. So, all is good.

Another day, another 300 miles. Another really great 300 miles.
At the last minute, the passport location was changed from Connecticut to Pennsylvania due to personal reasons. It good to be the King!!!The change extended our ride into Pa and a stop at Daddypops Diner in Hatboro, Pa. If you know what White Manna looks like, this diner is a little large but with tables. Tables & a long line to get into it

We opted to look elsewhere after taking the required evidence that we were, in fact, there. On the way to Perkin’s, we spotted a nice Mexican restaurant and pulled in for lunch. Not only was the food good but the price was not NYC.
After eating, we headed back home. At Frenchtown, we took a break.

Bob skipped the stop and headed to spread some manure over his lawn. After that we broke up even more. Cathie & I split to go to a cancer fund raiser in Mountain Lake and Steve & Conrad hopefully found their way home. A good day of riding was had by all, although we did miss Bill Widmer (injured) & John Maietta (?).
Next Sunday is the Celtic MCC ‘s annual Poker Run. This is an event that we should support as we always get support from them on our events. It is also the so called Poker Run by the Chai Riders in Fairlawn. Need I say more??? It is to the Bronx we go!!! Sign-in is 9:00am, so I would like to leave the diner about 8:45, get there, sign in, and get on the road. Hopefully we will avoid the ‘Thundering Herds’.
See you then.

Yet another great day for the sport. A little brisk in the morning and shut off the electrics in the afternoon.
As you can see from the attendance, Bill Widmer had a slight accident while moving his bike in his driveway; tore a tendon.
It is amazing how many people get hurt just moving their bikes around. I know I did and it took 4 years to be pain free.
The ride down, as promised, was all back roads and took almost about 3.5 hours. 3.5 hours of good motorcycle roads. It probably could have taken 3 hours but I made a wrong turn causing us to circle back on ourselves. That wasn’t bad enough but I made the same mistake a 2nd time. Third time was a charm and we pulled into a jammed parking lot at Brian’s H-D. After signing in we went upstairs to the food bank. Brian must have spent a bundle to feed the multitudes. He should have had Jesus to bless the fishes and the bread for that mob. The place is so big it tokk half an hour just to gather up everybody.
ON the return ride, we decided to take the back roads up thru Frenchtown and then on to I-78/I-287. In Frenchtown, I made an characteristic (for me) stop for coffee and a bite. Uncharacteriistic because the were not golden arches or the King standing in front.
John Habermann stayed around to puff on that terrible smelling excuse for a cigar, (see photo) and the rest of us headed home for the day.
Next week is the final Sunday of the Polar Bear Season. We will be going down to Jenkinson’s Pavillion, in Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Remember if you need extra points to finish a dip in the ocean will get you 25 pts. We will be leaving the diner at 9:00am.
I can’t promise you as good a ride as the last two weeks, but I’ ll
Try to make it as interesting as I can.
Remember, please sign in for the Awards Dinner. Presently, we do not have the minimum number of guests.

As you can well see, as the temperature goes up so does the ridership on Sundays.
As anyone can tell you who was on the ride, we had some great roads and good riding. We got down to the Chatterbox a bit late and as you could have expected on such a nice day, it was packed. No room at the inn, so we decided to head back up the road for a short run to a diner. We were not the only rider making that choice.
Before us was a group of 16, plus our 11. The manager was really great. Before you knew it he had made space for both groups. We all had our usual fare, paid the bill and headed home via route 94.
On our way home, some of our members stopped and paid their respects to Vince & Janice Blehl. As you know, Janice’s brother passed away.
Next weekend’s ride is to Brian’s H-D, in Langhorn, Pa. We will be leaving at 8:30 from the diner. This way we will get there before all the food is eaten. It is a fairly long ride of about 100 miles, all back roads. I am hoping for some nice weather. The following week’s ride is the finale of the Polar Bear season. We will be going to Jenkenson’s Pavillion in Pt Pleasant. In case there are any riders who need 25 extra points to be a finisher, a polar bear dip in the ocean will do the trick. As you can see from the above, we had a good turnout for Sunday’s ride. It was good to see Jerry & Charlie out for the Polar Bear.
It was a banner day. Not only did we set the clocks an hour ahead, but it was a day to shed the winter clothes and put on something a bit lighter.
The ride down was all back roads, some not traveled before but interesting. As you can imagine, sign-in was mobbed. We had to wait about a half hour + for a table. Bob Steinberg opted out and headed home, stating he had something or other to do. The rest got our table, ate and headed home again over some roads not previously traveled by RMC.
Next week’s ride will also be a moderate ride. It is to the Chatterbox Drive-in, in Augusta, NJ, about 130 miles round trip.
We will be leaving the diner at 10:00am.. There are about 113 points left in the Polar Bear season. Are you going to be a finisher ?? Hope to see you there.

Yes! No! Maybe so! That was the question. Well, we decided to meet at the diner at 9:30am., have some breakfast and then decide.
Well, the Nos won out as the weather system moved in and made the decision for us. We, those with motorcycles, were a bit disappointed but no sense riding in the rain. We must be getting old or already reached finisher’s status.
Next week’s ride once again is a short trip down the parkway to the Firehouse Eatery. We will be leaving at 10:00am with a stop at Dunkin’ Donuts for a coffee along the way.
This past Thursday was Chili night and the herd gathered to graze~
The doctor is in the house ~
Obviously, the solution to the financial crisis is.....Chili night
Not really weeping. just a jalepeno moment
Should I put additional hot sauce on it or not?
~ No Rolaids were harmed at this event ~

HOOTERS!!!! What more can I say… Today’s ride is probably the shortest ride for Ramapo in the Polar Bear series. I think that we barely eaked out 100miles. As usual, we were one of the first groups to arrive and a good thing too as before very long all the tables were filled. We put in our initial order of 50 naked wings and a couple of pitchers of Bud. Would you believe it, everybody in the place had to be carded before they could get a beer. Another oddity about Hooters is that all the girls are supposed have there tattoos covered in heavy makeup as this is a family eatery. Could have fooled me. They have their bottoms and their busts hanging out but the tattoos have to be covered. Life is strange.

I also took the opportunity to give the people from Pa. their Crotona Midnight Run Medallions and two trophies that they won.

They were very appreciative of our efforts, as was all the Crotona riders, even the DQ’s. I am finally finished with the paper work for the event. I probably had as much effort expended after the run as before. I am glad that it is over and a success, both financially and rider satisfaction
.

Remember, this Thursday is Chili Nite, bring you appetite and some Rolaids.

The magnificent 15!!!! It is difficult to believe that Ramapo MC
Put on such a really great event with only 15 people, 15 dedicated people.
At 8:00 am, 8 February 2009, I was standing in the early morning
Sunshine and basking in the glory of a job well done. It was not just my day in the sun but everybody that made this day a success.
…and a success this was. There were 69 numbers assigned, but that did not tell the tale of the tape. Hudson Valley HOGS was number 68 and rode as a group, a group of 21 riders. There were also 4 passengers/sidecars in the ride. That make a bit over 90 participants. I think that the weather had something to do with it.
All went well, with the exception of a rider (#69), who experienced a flat tire on his bike. He was off the route and called Cathie at home, as this was the only # that he had. It was a coincidence that he was broken down on the return route and was picked up by the sweep. While he was waiting, he managed to change the tube in his flat tire but did not have enough air to get back on the road.
I am sorry to say that there were 3 checkpoints that were manned by only one person. It is a really long night standing out in the darkness & cold by yourself for many hours. For a club our size, that is not understandable. As I have said before, "Can't, I can accept; Won't is not acceptable." If you consider yourself a club member, act like one!!!! Again, thanks to all that made this another great Ramapo MC event. We are appreciated by the motorcycling community.
Back to our usual. Next Sunday's Polar Bear will be to Hooters, in Wayne, NJ. As it is a short ride down, we will be leaving at 10:00am

The day started on an odd note. It was approaching 9:00am and there was no sign of Bill Widmer. Never saw that before as he is usually there before me. I gave him a ring and, Lo & behold, he had overslept. Being the compassionate and considerate Road Capt that I am, I convinced the others to wait for Bill.
Then it was on our way. The ride was a little over 200 miles round trip. Started off a bit on the chilly side but warmed up to about 55 degrees before we got home again. We did stop at Sebastian’s for some good German cooking. Steinberg you missed out on a good luncheon. At Sebastian’s, Ben Otunu caught up with us. He came a bit late and went directly to Fort Dix.
Next week, there will be no Polar Bear for Ramapo MC. Instead
We will be have the 91st addition of the Crotona Run. I will get in touch with you directly for your assignments during the week.
Attached are some photos for our trip to Fort Dix. It seems that all we do is eat.

Once again the Polar Bear had been cancelled for the third time this season. So much for global warming. We did have a breakfast at the Diner.

Bob Steinberg did not access the ‘hot line’ and showed up at 10:00am.
Next week’s Polar Bear is to the ‘Flying W Airport. With it being a fairly long ride, we will be leaving the diner at 9:00am instead of our usual starting time of 10:00am. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate.
Also next weekend is the International Motorcycle Show at the Javits Center. Saturday morning, Ed Roche, Carlie and myself will be working the AMA booth. Stop in and bye a rafflee ticket for the AMA Heritage Museum.
Have a good week and will see you next Sunday.

The weather was much better than on the 1st and the Chilly Chilli Run, which, by the way, Ramapo wimped out on. It was Conrad, Bill & I at the diner but only for breakfast. No Bikes! No Ride!
But today was quite different as you can see from the above list.
The ride was one of our short Polar Bears of only about 120 miles round trip. It was also one of our more boring rides, down 287, across 70 and up 15.. We signed in and stayed for some lunch that is all but Conrad who had to scoot home for one of his Granddaughter’s birthdays. Congratulations
Next week’s ride is also a short sojourn into south Jersey. We are going to Sir John’s, in new Brunswick, NJ. We will be leaving the diner at the usual time of 10:00am.
Remember the Crotona Midnight Run is coming up, 7/8 February.
As usual I need checkers. Please keep this date open.
